AAP MLA
Prakash Jarwal has been arrested for slapping a junior engineer in Sangam
Vihar. Delhi Jal Board had registered a case against Jarwal.
Police said the Deoli MLA was produced before a court on Friday,
following which he was sent to custody. Jarwal has been charged with charge of obstructing
public servant in discharge of public functions, charge of voluntarily causing
hurt to deter public servant from his duty and charge of assault or criminal
force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty of the IPC.
Jarwal had got into an argument with the engineer over the installation of a tube well in Sangam Vihar. The official had claimed that one of the MLA's associates called him up and
told him to stop the work as it had to be inaugurated by Jarwal. When the official explained that it would lead to structural problems, Jarwal came to the site and got into an argument with him. When the engineer continued the work, he was allegedly hit by Jarwal.
On Thursday, Jarwal had rubbished the allegations and said he had gone to the site to ask the DJB official why the work had been stopped. Jarwal had alleged that the official had asked for a bribe and stopped the work.
"DJB officials started drilling at 6am but stopped at 8.30am. They began demanding money to complete the work. When I contacted the assistant engineer, he assured me that the work would start again. However, he refused to continue work on the tube well and told people that the work had been stopped because I was to come and inaugurate it," Jarwal had said. He also alleged that the DJB workers assaulted a local woman.
