BJP starts open a fresh election in Delhi

On a high court after its Lok Sabha win, BJPP opens to fresh elections in Delhi. “BJP is prepare for a re-poll and confident for their victory. I will be the last man in this world to resort to any kind of manipulation,” Vardhan told PTI after he emerged victorious in the prestigious Chandni Chowk Constituency, defeating his nearest rival Ashutosh of Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP won all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and the victorious contestants included three sitting MLAs including Vardhan.

The hour-long meeting was attended by Delhi unit president Harsh Vardhan, former Delhi chiefs Vijay Goel and Vijender Gupta, Delhi unit in-charge for organizational affairs, Prabhat Jha, and other senior state and national leaders like Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.

Sources say the party has decided to not make any attempt to get the support of MLAs from other parties as the prevailing conditions give BJP time to strengthen its hold in the city and cash in on Narendra Modi's development agenda.

Although the increase in AAP's vote share in Delhi is a cause of concern, BJP leaders say the AAP effect will fizzle out once the central government starts delivering on its promises. "They have benefited from a steep fall in Congress' vote share. AAP might further eat into Congress' Muslim vote bank. But once the central government starts delivering, it will help us consolidate votes in Delhi. Today, price rise, unemployment, lack of development etc are the key concerns. And our government promises to provide a solution to these issues,'' said a BJP MLA.

While most BJP MLAs aren't keen on another election so soon, Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan says the party is battle-ready. "We are ready. I maintain that BJP will not indulge in horse-trading to form the government in Delhi. LG Najeeb Jung has to take a final call on the issue of re-election,'' said Vardhan. Sources say fresh elections are unlikely before September.
