The two prime suspect accused in the Lajpat Nagar robbery have been charged
under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act , police sources said
on Wednesday. Pradeep Machhender
and Shiv Shakti Naidu,
who have many pending cases against them, have been charged under the stringent
act and the special cell will file a supplementary chargesheet invoking the
MCOCA sections by month- end
The Maharashtra Control of
Organized Crime Act was formulated in 1999 to combat organized crime and
terrorism. Unlike under regular law, confessions made before senior police officers
are admissible not just against the person confessing, but also against others
involved in the case. Also, there is no provision for granting anticipatory
before six months.
Rajesh
Kumar Kalra, a Delhi- based businessman whose name was in the chargesheet in
the Hansie Cronjie match fixing case, was robbed of ` 7.70 crore. It has been
over a month since the incident but the police are yet to find out the source
of the huge amount. " We have already intimidated the income tax
department in this regard and will also be writing to the Enforcement
Directorate to look into the matter," Srivastava said.
The main accused, Shakti Naidu, was arrested on Friday after he surrendered at Saket court. Pradeep alias Machhender was the key henchmen who had carried out the loot in which a Honda City was hijacked along with ` 7.69 crore from south Delhi's upscale Lajpat Nagar area.
