AAP MLA held for attacking Delhi JAL board official

AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal has been arrested for slapping a junior engineer in Sangam Vihar. Delhi Jal Board had registered a case against Jarwal.

Police said the Deoli MLA was produced before a court on Friday, following which he was sent to custody. Jarwal has been charged with charge of obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, charge of voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and charge of assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty of the IPC.

Jarwal had got into an argument with the engineer over the installation of a tube well in Sangam Vihar. The official had claimed that one of the MLA's associates called him up and
told him to stop the work as it had to be inaugurated by Jarwal. When the official explained that it would lead to structural problems, Jarwal came to the site and got into an argument with him. When the engineer continued the work, he was allegedly hit by Jarwal.

On Thursday, Jarwal had rubbished the allegations and said he had gone to the site to ask the DJB official why the work had been stopped. Jarwal had alleged that the official had asked for a bribe and stopped the work.

"DJB officials started drilling at 6am but stopped at 8.30am. They began demanding money to complete the work. When I contacted the assistant engineer, he assured me that the work would start again. However, he refused to continue work on the tube well and told people that the work had been stopped because I was to come and inaugurate it," Jarwal had said. He also alleged that the DJB workers assaulted a local woman.

BJP starts open a fresh election in Delhi

On a high court after its Lok Sabha win, BJPP opens to fresh elections in Delhi. “BJP is prepare for a re-poll and confident for their victory. I will be the last man in this world to resort to any kind of manipulation,” Vardhan told PTI after he emerged victorious in the prestigious Chandni Chowk Constituency, defeating his nearest rival Ashutosh of Aam Aadmi Party. The BJP won all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and the victorious contestants included three sitting MLAs including Vardhan.
The BJP won all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and the victorious contestants included three sitting MLAs including Vardhan.

The hour-long meeting was attended by Delhi unit president Harsh Vardhan, former Delhi chiefs Vijay Goel and Vijender Gupta, Delhi unit in-charge for organizational affairs, Prabhat Jha, and other senior state and national leaders like Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.

Sources say the party has decided to not make any attempt to get the support of MLAs from other parties as the prevailing conditions give BJP time to strengthen its hold in the city and cash in on Narendra Modi's development agenda.

Although the increase in AAP's vote share in Delhi is a cause of concern, BJP leaders say the AAP effect will fizzle out once the central government starts delivering on its promises. "They have benefited from a steep fall in Congress' vote share. AAP might further eat into Congress' Muslim vote bank. But once the central government starts delivering, it will help us consolidate votes in Delhi. Today, price rise, unemployment, lack of development etc are the key concerns. And our government promises to provide a solution to these issues,'' said a BJP MLA.

While most BJP MLAs aren't keen on another election so soon, Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan says the party is battle-ready. "We are ready. I maintain that BJP will not indulge in horse-trading to form the government in Delhi. LG Najeeb Jung has to take a final call on the issue of re-election,'' said Vardhan. Sources say fresh elections are unlikely before September.

Modi march in Delhi

Traffic police have issued an advisory ahead of a victory procession scheduled in the capital, set to be led by BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, on Saturday. The march, starting at IGI airport, will end at the party's 11, Ashoka Road office. En route, Modi will stop at four places to meet his supporters.
As he reached the party headquarters, Modi was showered with rose petals amid chants of his name by supporters. Party president Rajnath Singh and senior leader Nitin Gadkari were also present at 11, Ashoka Road in central Delhi.
"This victory is dedicated to the sacrifices of generations of loyal party workers who have been working tirelessly since 1952. It's the fruit of their blessings, prayers and hard work," Modi said.
The chief minister of Gujarat, who has never held national office, is set to drive from the airport to his party's headquarters in central New Delhi with supporters gathering along the route.
The BJP won the first majority in Parliament for 30 years on Friday after a campaign by Modi focused on delivering new jobs, development and clean government.
The triumph redrew India's political map, handing him a huge mandate for change, and heaping humiliation on the ruling Gandhi political dynasty.

Indian election results 2014 : Modi Wins

Eight months after the BJP named him its prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, proved he was valuable for the opposition the party originally encountered over its decision. Modi has delivered the BJP's best result ever, giving it more than the 272 seats it needs to form a government.  This is the first parliamentary majority by a single party since 1984.
In the course of a two-hour conversation four-and-a-half months ago, Narendra Modi told an editor of TOI, when asked how many seats he thought BJP would get: "This is not about arithmetic, this is about aspiration and passion. Ye toh tsunami aane wala hai (there is an electoral tsunami coming)." On Friday morning, as the manpower  of the Modi burst took the nation by storm, the word that trended to the top of social media was, not surprisingly, 'tsunamo'. It was a landslide for BJP, and a humiliating rout of Gandhi-led Congress.

In the end it just took a phone call from President Barack Obama to Narendra Modi with an invitation to visit Washington to reset a US policy that had shunned India's next prime minister for over a decade.

Mr Obama's invitation to Mr Modi "to visit Washington at a mutually agreeable time to further strengthen our bilateral relationship" was given as part of a congratulatory call made on Friday for the "Bharatiya Janata Party's success in India's historic election."

"The President noted he looks forward to working closely with Mr. Modi to fulfill the extraordinary promise of the US-India strategic partnership, and they agreed to continue expanding and deepening the wide-ranging cooperation between the two democracies," the White House said in a readout of the call.
